Police probe links between Ahmad brothers’ executions six years apart

Police believe the execution of gangster Mahmoud ‘Brownie’ Ahmad this year could be linked to a feud that saw his brother brutally gunned down six years ago.

Police now believe the execution of Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmad could be part of a long- term plan to wipe out the notorious crime family by a well-resourced enemy wanting revenge.

Detectives are exploring links from four gangland murders earlier this year, including Ahmad’s, back to a feud stemming from the unsolved 2016 murder of his brother Walid “Wally” Ahmad.

Police divulged the claims to the State Parole Authority earlier this year in an attempt to return another member of the Ahmad family to custody.

The Ahmads have made several enemies down the years, police sources said, but have lost much of their power.

Police now believe a six-year-old feud is what led to terror on Sydney’s streets in the first half of 2022.

Initially the underworld rumour mill linked Mahmoud Ahmad’s death to his role in extorting crime figures, however, police have widened the scope of their investigation.

At the crux of the theory is the brutal unsolved murder of the head of the family Walid Ahmad six years ago.

Walid was gunned down outside a Bankstown shopping centre just weeks after he was implicated in the shooting death of Safwan Charbaji, an associate of a rival crime family called the Elmirs.

Mahmoud Ahmad died in April — just months after finishing a prison sentence for his role in the death of Charbaji.

Police believe a rival family may have waited for Mahmoud Ahmad to be released from jail before settling the score.

Police believe the two Ahmad killings could be linked to that feud — but have not ruled out any of the long list of enemies Mahmoud had.

Charbaji met his end outside a Condell Park smash repair shop owned by Walid Ahmad.

He had gone there in an attempt to settle a debt between the Ahmads and the Elmirs.

A senior member of the Elmir family is believed to have facilitated the escape of Alameddine crime network heavyweight Masood Zakaria last year.

The Alameddine family has also joined forces with the Comanchero bikie gang, whose sergeant-at-arms Tarek Zahed and his brother Omar were shot — allegedly in retaliation for Mahmoud Ahmad’s death, police believe.

Weeks later the crime conglomerate allegedly struck back, killing Mahmoud’s nephew Rami Iskander in his Belmore driveway.

After initially fleeing to Lebanon Ahmad returned to face justice over his involvement in the shooting of Charbaji.

Those details also emerged in evidence police divulged to the State Parole Authority in order to revoke the parole of Mahmoud and Walid’s brother Youssef in September.

They told the parole board that Youssef was not only allegedly planning more revenge attacks on the Comanchero and their allies, but he was at risk of being murdered.

No one has been charged with shooting Mahmoud Ahmad.

Some police sources believe the killer or killers have followed the trend of other hit men and fled the country after the attack.
