Orange: Manhunt for teen after 15-year-old injured in crash during cop chase

A teenager is in hospital under police guard, as police search for a second teen after the pair allegedly fled police in a stolen SUV when it struck a power pole in the state’s central west.

A 15-year-old boy is in hospital under police guard, as officers search for a second teen allegedly involved in a car crash in a stolen SUV during a police chase in the state’s central west.

Officers from Central West Police District were called to a home in Covent Close, Orange around 2am on Wednesday following reports a car was stolen during a break and enter.

Around half an hour later, officers responded to reports of two teens attempting to break into a home on Emmaville Street, North Orange, where they saw the stolen SUV being driven from the scene about 2.30am.

After the driver allegedly failed to stop when directed by police, a pursuit was initiated but was later terminated due to the dangerous manner of driving.

About 10 minutes later, police located the SUV which had come off the road and crashed into a power pole at the intersection of William and Dalton streets in Orange.

A 15-year-old boy allegedly behind the wheel of the stolen car was arrested at the scene, he sustained minor injuries and was transported to Orange Base Hospital in a stable condition around 4am.

He remains in hospital under police guard for further treatment.
