Charges upgraded against Robert James Booth, 57, over death of man in Kyogle

Charges brought against a man have been escalated to manslaughter after a 49-year-old man died after an alleged assault in the state’s north earlier this month. Here’s the latest.

Charges brought against Robert James Booth, 57, have been escalated to manslaughter after a 49-year-old man’s death in Kyogle earlier this month.

Robert James Booth is now facing upgraded, additional charges of manslaughter and assault causing death.

Officers attached to Richmond Police District allege the fatal assault occurred in Irwin St, Kyogle on Monday April 14.

Police allege that Booth assaulted the 49-year-old the day before “following a verbal altercation”.

After police attended the Irwin St property they found the victim “ was unconscious with assault injuries”.

“He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however he died at the scene,” a NSW Police statement read.

Booth was arrested later that day on Highfield Road, Kyogle and charged at Casino police station with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

He appeared in Lismore local court on Monday and is due to appear again on Wednesday July 16.

In an earlier court appearance on April 15 the accused applied for bail but was formally refused by Magistrate Michael Dakin.
