A founding member of controversial rap group OneFour has been deported from Australia after finishing a prison sentence over a violent pub brawl.
Salec “Lekks” Sua was in 2019 jailed for four-and-a-half years after he and One Four counterparts Pio “YP” Misa and Dahcell “Celly” Ramos used a hammer to bash two men as they played the pokies at Rooty Hill’s Carousel Inn.
Sua – one of the original rappers of the popular Mt Druitt-based group – said during his sentencing that he was remorseful over his role in the attack, and apologised to the man and his family.
But the seriousness of his offence led to Sua being deported to New Zealand last year after his non-parole period was completed.
Sua’s deportation had long been on the cards, having initially had his visa cancelled in June 2020.
When he was granted parole in November 2021 he was moved from the custody of Corrective Services into a detention centre, where he remained up until being returned to New Zealand by Australian Border Force.
By contrast, when Sua’s co-accused “YP” Misa was released from jail in 2021, he was greeted in style by his OneFour bandmates who presented him with not only a champagne tower but a fresh diamond neck chain.
Sua this week finally enjoyed a reunion with his fellow drill rappers as they touched down in New Zealand to play a series of music festivals.
Video posted to the OneFour Instagram page showed him embracing fellow member Spencer “Spenny” Magologo with an emotional hug as they saw each other for the first time in years.
“Welcome back my brother,” Magologo commented on the post.
But it was not a full reunion for OneFour, with only two members making the trip to New Zealand.
The group, who have had many appearances in Australia cancelled in recent years because of controversy surrounding them, were in the country to play two concerts as part of the Bay Dreams festival line-up.
The ABF was contacted for comment about Sua’s deportation but refused “due to privacy obligations”.
