A man who was kidnapped and held at ransom just three months ago has been the victim of two drive-by shootings in the past 72 hours in another attempted extortion by a well known Sydney crime family.

Omar Elomar’s home on Third Ave in Condell Park was first targeted on Friday morning, when shots were fired from a passing vehicle into the two-storey gated property.

Those warning shots were this morning backed up by bullets being fired into a business owned by the 39-year-old on nearby Simmat Ave in the same suburb.

The Daily Telegraph understands that Elomar is being targeted in a multimillion-dollar extortion attempt by a well known crime family.

“Just after 6.30am officers from Bankstown Police Area Command were called to Simmat Ave, Condell Park, following reports of a shooting,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Officers have established that a number of shots were fired into a business. No one was injured.”

Police sources confirmed the shooting occurred on Friday at the same address where he was kidnapped in January, but said they do not know why he is being targeted.

Elomar was kidnapped on January 9 when four men in an SUV with cloned number plates jumped out and grabbed him while he was in his driveway talking to a friend in another vehicle.

An ankle bracelet he had on as part of court imposed bail conditions for an upcoming court case was removed and found in the street nearby.

“There is a group who wants $4 million from him and they are gonna keep going at him until they get it,” said an underworld source.

Kidnapping and extortion has escalated across Sydney’s underworld in the past five years as an easy way of getting money.
