Woman kidnapped, child bashed, body in torched car: ‘This crime is horrendous, this level of violence unheard of’, say police

Sydney has seen its share of violence over the years yet the city, including Anthony Albanese, remains in shock at the savagery of a woman’s kidnap and killing which the PM described as “just horrific’’.

Sydney has seen its share of horror violence thanks to the long running and ruthless gang wars, yet the most seasoned detectives have been shocked by the savage attack on a woman in front of two children in Sydney’s south west.

The city has been left shocked at what many have labelled a new criminal low including prime minister Anthony Albanese who said the woman’s death was “just horrific” and that “Australians’ hearts will go out” to her loved ones “at this difficult time”.

Senior police say their officers were confronted by an unimaginable crime of violence.

News quickly spread through the ranks that the body of a 45-year-old woman — believed to be Thi Kim Tran — had been found in a burnt-out car after she was viciously assaulted and kidnapped in front of two young boys.

Police were called to a home in Bankstown on Thursday night after a group of five men wearing balaclavas forced their way in.

They allegedly attacked Ms Tran and assaulted an eight-year-old with a baseball bat before forcing Ms Tran into a dark-coloured SUV and driving away.

“It’s nothing like I have ever seen before, it’s definitely next level, just horrendous,” said

The crime has been described by senior police as “unheard of”, as a boy fights for life in hospital.

Former homicide squad detective Peter Hogan, who has spent 22-year years in the NSW Police Force and four of those years in homicide.

“It looks like the ultimate revenge crime, or sending a warning sign.”

Mr Hogan said it would have been a confronting scene to be faced with “but would be exacerbated by knowing the sequence of events leading up to the kidnapping and violence inflicted on children”.

“It’s just a horrific situation to be faced with.”

“Gone are the days when women and children were off limits. There was a code of conduct among crooks. Not so much any more, this is vile,” said a serving detective.

Bankstown Police Commander Rodney Hart concurred.

“This crime is horrendous, this level of violence is unheard of,” Superintendent Rodney Hart.

“I can only imagine what those children went through seeing the woman dragged out of the home and forced into the back of the car.

“This level of violence is confronting. But we are going to do our best day in, day out, (to find those responsible).”

It’s understood Ms Tran was stripped naked before being into the SUV, as the two boys

screamed.
