Hunt for Omar Elomar after Condell Park kidnapping

The kidnapping of a man from Condell Park may be innocently linked to a stolen shipment of hundreds of kilograms of cocaine.

A search for answers about who stole a 400 kilogram cocaine shipment belonging to Australia’s top drug lord continues to cause havoc among Sydney’s underworld, with a second man kidnapped in as many years.

Omar Elomar, 39, may have been innocently caught up in the drugs drama when he was kidnapped from his mansion on Third Ave at Condell Park about 7.30pm on Sunday.

Underworld sources claimed the kidnapping of Mr Elomar may be innocently linked to the theft of more than 400 kilograms of cocaine belonging to exiled Comanchero kingpin Mark Buddle in 2020.

It comes after a member of a major Sydney crime family was kidnapped in November 2020 as part of the search for answers, which ultimately proved unsuccessful.

NSW Police investigating Mr Elomar’s disappearance spent Sunday night and Monday scouring the area for clues, while also trying to work out if an SUV found burnt out and dumped in Greenacre about 1.25am was linked to the kidnapping.

A local resident, who wished only to be known as Peter, said he had seen the man sitting in a Toyota HiLux with another man outside his house around 10am on Sunday.

“I took the dogs for a run and he saw me and I saw him and he waved at me,” he said. “That was the last time I saw him.”

He said he had seen police speaking to the man in previous months, with another neighbour saying his house had been raided just two days ago.

“The police are focused on him, they’re trying to pin him. I’ve seen police going to his house. One time they tried to get into his house.”

CCTV footage obtained by The Daily Telegraph shows two men running out of the house minutes after Mr Elomar was kidnapped.

The pair can be seen speeding off in a white Mercedes.

Two hours earlier, at around 5.20pm, two men parked the same vehicle on the street and appeared to enter the house.

That same vehicle was seen parked outside the house throughout the day on Monday.

Police scouring the scene for evidence found two pink gloves near the Mercedes, which were bagged as evidence.

Several people were seen coming and going from the house throughout the morning, including two women who drove by the house in tears.

The victim’s brother was also seen being interviewed by police before leaving the home in a silver Mercedes SUV. He declined to comment.

Local resident Lisa Tran was shocked to wake up to hear her neighbour had been kidnapped.

“I didn’t see or hear anything, I was sleeping. I just saw the police outside,” she said. “It’s a big shock.”

Condell Park residents have had to live with crime at their doorsteps over the past few years with multiple shootings taking place in the Canterbury-Bankstown suburb.

In October 2020, just a few blocks from where Elomar was taken, underworld figure Mejid Hamzy was gunned down.

It is not believed the ongoing kidnapping or anyone involved is in anyway linked to the Hamzy family and there is no suggestion Mr Elomar was involved in importing or distributing cocaine, or any other crimes.
