Omar Elomar released by kidnappers after $3m ransom paid

The kidnapping of Condell Park man Omar Elomar, captured in graphic vision, may have been motivated by the mistaken belief he was involved in a massive cocaine heist.

Condell Park kidnapping caught on video

Kidnap victim Omar Elomar was held for 48 hours, during which time he was beaten while his abductors negotiated with people close to him for his release, according to underworld sources.

The 39-year-old was dramatically taken from his Condell Park house on Sunday night when five men, one armed with a gun attacked him before bundling him into a stolen Mercedes SUV.

Another man, who was talking to Elomar for a short time before getting into his vehicle in the driveway had a pistol pointed at him while his friend was dragged into the SUV.

Police look for evidence in surrounding homes and along the streets near Elomar’s home on Third Avenue in Condell Park.

One motive is that Elomar was taken under the mistaken belief he was involved in the theft of 400 kgs of cocaine stolen from a syndicate headed by Comanchero boss Mark Buddle in 2020. Soon after the theft from a warehouse in southwest Sydney there were a number of similar kidnappings as the syndicate tried to find out who was responsible and to recover their stolen drugs. There is no suggestion Elomar had any involvement in the hijacking of the drug shipment.

It is believed that the abductors were asking for $3m for his release. On Tuesday night a battered and bloodied Elomar presented himself at Bankstown hospital with fractured ribs and facial injuries. He discharged himself and has not yet talked to detectives investigating his abduction.

Early yesterday morning he returned home where he was met by relatives, but refused to comment on his ordeal. Soon after, a dramatic video of his abduction surfaced showing how well planned the crime was. The car used was later found burnt out in a street nearby.

A burnt out car was located on the corner of Murray Street and Lawford Street in Greenacre.

Unrest in the underworld has spiked in recent weeks with a public place shooting in Potts Hill linked to a feud between the Rebel and Bandido bike gangs.

Police are also desperately trying to contain the bloodshed in the war between the Hamze and Alamaddine crime networks with the public execution of Ghasson Amoun last week the latest victim which has claimed more than six lives in the last 18 months.

A fifth man then comes into vision and points a gun at the person in the car obviously warning him not to interfere in the kidnapping.

The victim is then tossed in the back of the vehicle which drives off.

Elomar was released two days later after it’s believed a $3 million ransom was paid.

He presented himself to Bankstown Hospital about 8pm on Tuesday night with broken ribs and facial bruising.

Ahmed Elomar – the brother of ISIS terrorist Mohamed Elomar – was at the Condell Park home to welcome him when he returned on Wednesday morning.

Mr Elomar is not currently co-operating with police.
