Haunting vision: Final moments of Ferenc ‘David’ Stemler before fatal shooting

Surveillance footage has captured the final moments, and the days leading up to, the fatal shooting of Ferenc “David” Stemler in Sydney’s southwest last year.

The chilling final moments of Ferenc “David” Stemler have been captured on CCTV as homicide detectives continue to investigate his fatal shooting in Sydney’s southwest last year.

Stemler, 28, was shot dead in a hail of bullets as he met with two men outside his rental home in the southwest suburb of Canterbury just after 2am on July 27.

A photo taken by The Daily Telegraph at the time captured Mr Semler’s heavily-tattooed body lying on the road as two primary school children walked past on their way to school.

He was the fifth person to be shot on a Sydney street in as many days, and was gunned down just hours after well-known lawyer Mahmoud Abbas was shot in the leg and torso outside his home in Greenacre.

Local police, with assistance from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, commenced inquiries before the matter was taken carriage of by Task Force Magnus under Strike Force Murrell.

To date, a man and woman have been charged and remain before the courts.

Detectives have released new CCTV vision from the night of the alleged murder in the hopes it will encourage more witnesses to come forward with information.

A white Lexus – which was stolen in July last year – can be seen arriving at the Casula Central carpark about 10.25pm on July 18, with police alleging the car lay in wait for the planned shooting.

The Lexus is seen being ‘checked on’ by a black hatchback and dark-coloured hatchback on Thursday July 20, and again on Monday July 24.

The Lexus’ lights are seen flashing as the keys appear to be tested.

Just before 9.50pm on Wednesday July 26, a white Commodore – believed to be stolen in April 2016 – enters the carpark from Pine Road, before leaving in convoy with the white Lexus.

Shortly after 1am on Thursday July 27, the cars are seen exiting the M5 Motorway at Bexley Road in Kingsgrove.

CCTV then captures the moment Mr Stemler approaches the Commodore outside his address on Broughton Street in Canterbury before he is fatally shot.

Detectives believe the meeting was arranged. After the fatal attack, the white Lexus and a dark hatchback are seen in a convoy in Casula on their way to burn out the Lexus used in the shooting.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information about the movements of the cars or the shooting incident to contact police.
