This is the moment primary school children were exposed to the deadly reality of Sydney’s underworld as they made their way to class.
An incredible picture captured by The Daily Telegraph showed the two boys looking on in horror at the bloodied body of a man who had been shot six hours earlier.
No one should see this, least of all children.
But with five people shot in as many days, and police grappling to get a handle on an out-of-control underworld, it is hard to hide.
We believe you should see this photo, as something needs to change.
It comes as The Daily Telegraph reported the Minns government had been accused of “losing control” of Sydney’s streets after criminal defence lawyer Mahmoud Abbas was shot down in Greenacre on Wednesday.
The shootings have placed Police Minister Yasmin Catley’s performance in the spotlight, with NSW opposition leader Mark Speakman accusing Ms Catley of failing to give the public confidence the recent public shootings were a top priority for her.
“There is an escalating issue with organised crime on our streets and the Police Minister is failing in her duty,” Mr Speakman said.
Ms Catley is currently on a pre-planned tour of regional NSW.
She said the government would provide further resources to police if they are needed.
“This latest shooting is beyond comprehension,” she said.
“Some of the state’s best detectives are working around the clock to track down the gutless criminals responsible and get them off our streets … We’ve all had it with these attacks.”
