A man diagnosed with thyroid cancer has been dealt another blow after being jailed over the theft of a number of motorcycles from a West Gosford shed.

Dylan Taylor-Joycey, 29, was sentenced in Gosford District Court to two years and six months jail after pleading guilty to a number of charges including break and enter and stealing motor vehicles.

Taylor-Joycey had met with the owner of an industrial shed at a premises in West Gosford in May of last year, after making an offer to purchase a motorcycle via Facebook Marketplace.

About a month later, on June 17 last year, the victim left the premises and locked the shed.

Just before 2am on June 18, Taylor-Joycey broke into the premises by forcing the roller door open and entered the unit, stealing two motorcycles.

At 2.14am, Taylor-Joycey texted an associate saying “I need help”, and then, shortly before 3am, he left the premises.

Just after 5am, he returned with an unknown co-offender and stole a third and fourth motorcycle.

At 3pm, the victim returned to his shed and discovered it had been broken into. The roller doors had been forced off their tracks.

He was quoted about $4,200 to replace the damaged roller doors.

On June 19, police observed a black motorcycle at a premises in Wyoming and recognised it as similar to one that had been stolen. It had been spray-painted and modified.

Police inspected the vehicle and confirmed it had the same VIN number as one of the stolen motorcycles.

Officers attended the home and were greeted by Taylor-Joycey’s partner. They informed her that a crime scene had been declared.

Taylor-Joycey then appeared from the side of the house. When advised he was under arrest, he refused to be handcuffed, tensed his arms and said, “Leave me the f--- alone, I haven’t even done anything.”

A further search of the backyard located a second stolen motorcycle as well as a number of items, including drug paraphernalia.

The court heard Taylor-Joycey had a lengthy criminal history and had recently been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

It also heard he had experienced a number of traumatic events around the time of the offending, which had led him to turn to illicit substances.

Judge David Wilson sentenced Taylor-Joycey to the jail term and he will be eligible for parole on March 17, 2026.
