Police are trying to track down a rare Holden Commodore stolen more than seven years ago which was used in the murder of a Sydney drug dealer.

David Stemler was seen walking down Broughton St, Canterbury in the inner city at about 2am on July 27 when the car slowed down and the 27-year-old went to talk to someone in the vehicle before he was shot a number of times and died at the scene.

Police believe the vehicle involved in his murder was a white 2013 Holden Commodore that was stolen from Wentworthville in 2016.

“We are appealing for anyone who might’ve seen the vehicle during the time since it was stolen; it has a distinct black petrol cap,” Detective Chief Inspector Virginia Gorman from Taskforce Magnuss said.

Leaving Casula in convoy on July 26 at 10pm is the white Lexus and Commodore.

“There must be at least one person who has used or stored the vehicle over the last seven years. After the murder, a second vehicle, a white Lexus, was found burning in Casula.

“We are investigating the links between a dark hatch and the stolen Lexus as they appear to be travelling in convoy after the murder.”

CCTV also captured a man in a distinctive orange jumper in the passenger's seat in the Commodore after the murder.

The Lexus believed to be used as a second getaway car was found burnt out in Dunrossil Ave in Casula about 90 minutes after the shooting.

The commodore was found later that morning in Kingsgrove.

Task force Magnus is now looking at any possible links between the shootings of drug kingpin and Comanchero boss, Alen Moradian, in Bondi Junction on June 27, and the murder of Marvin Oriah on May 22 who was known to Moridian.

They are also looking at links to the attempted assassination of two men at a Marrickville hair salon on July 7 and investigating the murder of Ahmed Al Azzam, 25, in the early hours of July 23 at an industrial area in Greenacre.

Two innocent people in a car nearby were also hit by a stray bullet but survived.
