Comanchero bikie boss Allan Meehan has been dethroned as the National President of the club after being held in jail on remand by NSW cops and replaced with a Melbourne based housepainter, called Bemir Saravic.
Meehan and Saravec are known to be close and the pair were together in Melbourne last year watching the George Kambosos-Devin Haney title fight at Marvel Stadium.
The leadership of the club has been in turmoil since the arrest of long time boss Mark Buddle in Cyprus last year and his subsequent deportation by Australian Federal Police on drug importation charges.
Buddle is now on remand in Victoria awaiting trial.
Further adding to the changes at the top of the club was the arrest last year of Tarek Zahed, national sergeant-at-arms who was expected take over the national presidency when incumbent Mick Murray was arrested on murder charges.
Murray has pleaded not guilty and due to go to trial this year.
The job eventually went to Allan Meehan who was immediately harrassed by NSW Raptor Squad and hit with a Serious Crime Prevention Order, forcing him to tell police when and where he travelled out of state, what phone he used, his bank account details as well as heavy non-association orders.
Meehan, who publicly declared there is $3m bounty on his head, moved to the Gold Coast in the hope of a peaceful life but NSW cops followed him there and extradited him for allegedly breaching his conditions.
The 35-year-old is expected to fight the charges and is listed for a bail application in the Supreme Court for April 5.
“Why could you want the top job, especially in NSW when the minute you get it you are targeted by Raptor and other squads,” said a senior NSW police officer.
“What will be interesting is if the change of leadership is a takeover or a handover, and if it leads to any internal tensions,‘’ said another officer.
“The club has been through a very destabilisation period, been targeted heavily by NSW and are a bit all over the place. Its no surprise they are trying to restructure and send a message they are organised,” he said.
Saravic, who drives a $700,000 Lamborghini, had been frequently photographed with Meehan and is also known to be close mate the former national supremo Mick Murray.
A number of underworld sources said while the president may be Melbourne based, Sydney is still calling the shots with powerful people running the “Commission”, a Mafia-style tax the Comanchero are trying to place on anyone importing drugs into Australia.
“Most of the drugs come into Sydney and move on from there and is where the power is, although a lot of guys have moved interstate because of the pressure NSW cops keep putting on them,” one underworld source said.
