Comanchero bikie boss Mark Buddle to fight being kicked out of Cyprus in wake of arrest

Comanchero bikie boss Mark Buddle is likely to fight any attempt to kick him out of Northern Cyprus – which has no clear extradition process to Australia.

The War Episode 2: The rise and rise of Mark Buddle

Comanchero boss Mark Buddle is likely to fight any attempt to kick him out of Cyprus where he is currently in custody on visa issues.

Buddle has been living and running his bikie empire from Cyprus since mid-2021, after leaving behind the exclusive lifestyle he had set up with his partner and two children in Dubai.

He was attracted to the disputed northern part of the country which both Cyprus and Turkey make claims, and which has no clear extradition process to Australia.

The Daily Telegraph understands the Sydney-born international commander of the Comanchero remains under arrest in Cyprus, with manoeuvres currently underway behind the scenes to bring him to Australia.

Police and underworld sources confirmed Buddle was currently in the custody of local authorities.

His arrest may have taken some authorities in Australia by surprise, including the AFP who do not have an extradition warrant for him but sources said do have evidence to arrest him.

“He certainly has some visa problems, but we’re not sure if there are other issues that the locals have detained him for,” one source said.

Late on Sunday night there were rumours that Buddle was working out a deal with local authorities to be released on bail.

“It’s a part of the world where he can buy his way out,” a number of sources said. Some believe his arrest was a extortion plot from the beginning.

Northern Cyprus is viewed as simply being Cyprus by all nations except Turkey, who views it as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

For this reason it has long had a reputation for being a location where underworld figures can be arrested, only to then slip through the cracks.

Buddle reportedly had a run-in with authorities in northern Cyprus in late-2021 that saw shots fired in the direction of a boat he was on and led to him being briefly apprehended by police, before being let go.

According to a local newspaper police searched the group and allegedly found a knife on one man, leading to all – including Buddle – being briefly detained.

Initial suggestions from underworld sources that the FBI were involved in the arrest are still unconfirmed.

They are however known to be hunting in the area for fellow former Comanchero and alleged drug kingpin Hakan Ayik.

Ayik previously slipped through the fingers of Cyprus in 2010 when wanted by NSW Police.

He was one of the main men named by the FBI as being a distributor of the trojan horse AN0M app.
