Exiled bikie boss Mark Buddle reportedly had a run-in with authorities in northern Cyprus in late-2021 that saw shots fired and led to him being briefly apprehended by police, before being let go.
Buddle’s chaotic European experience is a long way removed from the private life he once lived in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, never before seen photos of which can today be unveiled by The Daily Telegraph.
The Comanchero president has been living in exile since 2016 when he, his partner Mel and their daughter left Sydney after Buddle became aware that he was wanted for questioning over the murder of Armaguard security worker Gary Allibon.
For more than five years the bikie enforcer lived in unimpeded luxury in Dubai, before a brawl at a poolside bar last year which was caught on video attracted unwanted attention and saw local authorities turn up the heat.
Eventually in mid-2021 Buddle got out of the Middle East - making stops in Lebanon and Iraq, before settling in Northern Cyprus.
However he has once again gathered unwanted attention in his new home, with local newspaper Kibrus Gercek reporting he arrived in Cyprus on a private jet accompanied by an entourage of close to 20 people.
But the newspaper claims that was only the beginning and after touching down at an airport in the district of Girne, they reportedly travelled east to the coastal city of Gazi Magusa where they got on a boat and were approached by police.
At one point shots were reportedly fired across the bow in a bid to stop Buddle’s group.
When police searched the group police allegedly found a knife on one man, leading to all - including Buddle - to be detained, before later being released.
NSW Police sources said they were aware of the story, but had been unable to determine its veracity.
Buddle is not the first Sydney-born international drug kingpin to have had a brush with Cypriot authorities, with Hakan Ayik also being stopped by border police in 2010.
Ayik is believed to have escaped police either by bribing his way out, or running when backs were turned.
Spending every day in exile is a far cry from the life Buddle once lived, with private photos showing him with family and at his favourite eastern suburbs spots.
In one picture, just like any other doting father, the feared bikie holds his young daughter in his arms as he stands lovingly next to his father Thomas.
