A teacher found dead in a bathtub called her family in Brazil to say she was leaving her boyfriend and heading home. But 12 hours later she was dead.
Police allege Catiuscia Machado, 41, was murdered by her long term boyfriend Diogo De Oliveira at their Chiswick apartment between 5 and 9pm that same day.
Ms Machado’s distraught brother Paolo Henrique Machado told The Daily Telegraph he had spoken to his sister just hours before she died.
“She called me Thursday night Brazil time but Friday morning in Australia to say she was leaving Diogo,” he said.
“She said ... she was leaving that day.”
Mr Machado said his sister and her boyfriend moved to Australia in December last year so she could improve her English.
“The last thing she said to me was I am going travelling and I will be home in Brazil in February,” he said.
“Now she is dead, my heart is broken.”
Police allege the couple had a fight inside the Bechert Rd unit and De Oliveira hit Ms Machado, causing her to topple into the bath of water.
It is further alleged Diogo did not call for help until a day later when he contacted a friend who raised the alarm.
Ms Machado’s body was found on Saturday still in the bathtub with packets of frozen food in there as well.
De Oliveira was arrested at the scene and later charged with murder.
He remains before the courts.
Mr Machado said she was only contacted by police on Sunday night Brazil time after it took them two days to locate her family.
In a Facebook post Mr Machado told his friends of the tragedy “I can’t believe I’m going through this … what a heartbreak,” he said.
“Tonight was the worst night of my entire life, rest in peace my dear sister.
“I love you forever.”
