A woman found dead in a bathtub, allegedly murdered by her boyfriend inside their Chiswick apartment, is a special needs teacher who only arrived in Australia a few months ago.

Catiuscia Machado, aged in her 40s, died after she was allegedly hit during a fight with her boyfriend, Diogo De Oliveira at their apartment on Saturday night.

Police allege De Oliveira, 40, fatally punched her during an argument, which caused the woman to topple into the bath.

De Oliveira was arrested soon after police arrived, and taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with murder.

He briefly appeared in Burwood Local Court on Monday, but did not apply for bail.

A post mortem examination will be carried out this week to determine the woman’s exact cause of death, whether it was from a head injury or if she drowned.

Police will allege De Oliveira called a friend soon after the woman fell, and it was that person who called triple-0 for help.

NSW Police and the Brazilian Embassy in Sydney are still attempting to contact the woman’s relatives in Brazil.
