A man charged with the murder of Sydney gangland figure Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmad has been bashed in a NSW prison and is now in hospital under armed guard.

The man, 26-year-old Pierre Abou-Sleiman is believed to have been attacked in his cell by a group of inmates at Junee jail on Thursday.

Investigators are now reviewing the CCTV from the prison to try and identify his attackers. The Daily Telegraph understands no one is co-operating with authorities.

He is reported to have suffered facial injuries.

Abou-Sleiman was arrested on November 9 by officers from Strike Force Erebus which was set up to investigate a number of the alleged gangland murders on Sydney streets in the past 18 months.

Police allege that Abou-Sleiman was not the trigger man but was involved in assisting or planning the alleged hit. He was also charged with participating in a criminal group.

Ahmad was gunned down outside a friend’s home around 8pm on April 27 at Greenacre and died at the scene.

At the time of his death the 39-year-old had been warned by police there was a contract on his head.

Ahmad had only been out of prison a few months when he was killed. His brother Wally Ahmad was also murdered during a daylight execution at a Bankstown shopping centre in 2016.

Police had earlier charged two other men over their alleged involvement in Mahmoud Ahmad’s murder with accessory after the fact and participating in a criminal group.

Abou-Sleiman was arrested after he returned to Australia from a holiday overseas and was refused bail when he appeared in Bankstown court on November 10.

Another of his brothers, Ahmad “Rock” Ahmad, is serving a minimum eight year jail sentence over a drug importation plot.
