THE Southern Stars have been making a big impact in their tour of Sri Lanka with their undefeated run against the host nation.
But for one player, Sri Lanka has helped produce an historic moment.
It’s why Australian cricket veteran Alex Blackwell has won our Swoop Play of the Week.
Blackwell now joins the likes of the Australian Paraympic team, rider Caroline Buchanan, Paralympian Jessica Gallagher, netballers Caitlin Bassett and Madi Robinson, new WBBL cricketer Renee Straumietis, Matildas captain Lisa De Vanna, Opals and WNBA star Penny Taylor, paddler Jessica Fox, Olympic track cyclist Anna Meares and equestrian Edwina Tops-Alexander as a winner of a Swoop Play of the Day, Play of the Week or Play of the Weekend.
Blackwell became only the third Australian woman — and ninth internationally — to record 3000 runs in ODI cricket in Sri Lanka.
The feat saw her join Australian greats Belinda Clark and Karen Rolton in achieving the memorable milestone.
The Southern Stars vice-captain joined the exclusive club in the second one day international which Australia won by 78 runs.
The Southern Stars also qualified for next year’s ICC World Cup with their second victory over Sri Lanka last week.
