NOTHING motivates former swimmer turned ironwoman Rebecca Creedy like losing a race she reckons she should have won.
After stewing on a recent loss for a fortnight, former Commonwealth Games swimmer Creedy on Sunday returned to the winners circle with victory in the third round of the Summer of Surf series at Fingal Bay.
“To be honest I was more than a little disappointed with my last performance and I was really out for revenge today,’’ said the Australian ironwoman champion after holding off Sydney surf lifesaver Lizzie Welborn and Queenslander Emma Dick for the win.
“I wanted to prove to myself that I could win today so I was pretty fired up.’’
Creedy admits she had to work overtime for the win, with the surf going flat on her during the ski and swim legs.
“I had to paddle all the way in on the ski and I don’t get any help on the swim either,’’ she said.
“Lizzie really came at me in that last run but I was determined to hold her off.’’
Newport ironman Kendrick Louis also had plenty to prove at Fingal Bay after a disappointing performance at his home beach in the last round of the Summer of Surf.
Like Creedy, Louis was forced to dig deep as he pipped NSW lifesaver beating James Lacey in a run up the beach.
