NSW HOCKEY STATE SQUAD SELECTIONS
NSW Hockey Pathway co-ordinator Richard Willis said the tournament is an important one for the rising stars of the sport.,
“This weekend we are setting the U15 squad for 2022, the girls who will defend the gold medal victory in Bathurst (at the Australian championships).
“Forty athletes will be added into the squad.
“And we will select the 20 best U15 players to go into the U18 as well.’’
TOP TEAMS IN EACH DIVISION AT THE NSW HOCKEY U15 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Willis said Grafton are a top tip in division one.
“They will be very strong,’’ he said.
“They have a big journey coming down from their area to Lithgow and have a girl, Martina Williams, who was a dynamic striker for the 15s in their gold medal win at the Australian championships.
“Sydney south will be in among it as well.’’
In division two Bathurst is expected to impress.
“Bathurst could do well. They are fairly strong and close to home and probably staying in their own beds,’’ he said.
“They have Lily Cable and Macey Fulton playing.
“Newcastle are pretty talented as well and far North Coast have a good crop of athlete coming through.
His pick in division three is Canberra.
“Canberra have had a good year at our state championships. They have a good group of athletes and are acclimatised to cold conditions.
“In division four Coffs Harbour are doing well in their junior development.
“Hunter generally play on grass at Nelsons Bay so could do well.’’
