The Colonel is taking a leaf out of the McDonald’s play book with plans to open a 24-hour store in the Riverina.

A development application to contruct a $1.5 million Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant has been lodged with Wagga Council.

Glenfield Park’s South City Shopping Centre is the proposed home for the new KFC store.

The restaurant would offer a dine-in and take away services, as well as a drive-through services and carparking for 36 vehicles.

But for a first for Wagga, the restaurant has proposed to operate 24 hours, 7 days a week, allowing locals to satisfy that midnight chicken craving.

“The building will be constructed with generous setbacks to the property’s street frontages at Pinnaroo Drive and Tanda Place with an active street frontage and a generally open forecourt area overlooking the car park towards Tanda Place,” according to the development application documents.

The application addressed areas of concerns from the council including the relocation and reduction in size of the KFC sign, reduction of lighting and also addressed noise concerns.

“In the commercial context and having regard to the separating collector road network, the subject development will not generate offensive noise and will not be detrimental to the commercial land use setting and adjacent residential neighbourhood,” stated the application.

The build is estimated to cost around $1.5 million dollars and is expected to employee dozens of staff.

Wagga currently has three KFC stores located at The Home Base, Fitzmaurice St and The Sturt Mall.

The application was prepared by Habitat Planning on behalf of South City Shopping.
