A man who allegedly headbutted a senior police officer after a roadside random breath test and subsequent pursuit has fronted court.

Shane Patten, 50, appeared in the Bega Local Court on Tuesday, after the alleged police pursuit on the Princes Hwy through Narooma.

Police will allege the pursuit happened on Monday after officers conducting routine breath tests pulled over Patten’s Holden Commodore.

However, after pulling to the side of the road, Patten allegedly sped off before a test could be completed, police allege.

Police initiated a pursuit before the car came to a stop on Riverside Dr at Narooma.

Police further allege while attempting to arrest Patten, he headbutted a senior constable, causing injuries to his face and hands.

The senior constable was taken to Moruya hospital and treated for suspected fractures to his hand and nose.

Patten was arrested and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit, drive recklessly, resist police, assault police, drive with disqualified licence and drive with special range PCA.

He was refused bail before appearing in the Bega Local Court on Monday before Magistrate Roger Clisdell.

No pleas were entered and bail remains refused.

He will appear in Batemans Bay Local Court on January 23.
