A woman has denied allegations she – along with a teenage boy – stole a car during a break-in on the South Coast, before crashing it into a cement pillar.
Kamara Rose, 44, appeared in Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday after alleged theft at the Martin Cl, Broulee home.
Police will allege while inside the home in the early hours of January 8, Rose and her 17-year-old co-accused stole a handbag containing car keys, before entering the home’s garage and driving away in the car.
However, in a bungle while attempting to exit the garage, it is alleged the car slammed into a cement pole and a parked vehicle.
The occupants of the home heard the disturbance and called tripled zero, the court heard.
At 2am the same day – one hour after the alleged break-in – police patrolling North Batemans Bay spotted the allegedly stolen car heading north.
The car was then found dumped on Lincoln Cres, where the 17-year-old allegedly fled on foot.
Rose was tracked down by police and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station where she was charged with possessing break and enter tools, possessing suspected stolen goods and being the passenger of a vehicle taken without the consent of the owner.
She was granted conditional bail before appearing in Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday, where her lawyer, Daniel Thompson, submitted not guilty pleas to all charges on his client’s behalf.
Rose’s case was adjourned to the same court on March 10.
Meanwhile, her co-accused appeared in the Children’s Court on January 11 after he was arrested in Moruya following extensive investigations from the Southern Police District.
He was granted conditional bail and will reappear in a Children’s Court later this month.
