A police officer’s employment is under review after he allegedly nicked more than $200 from a patron’s wallet at a licensed venue on the NSW South Coast.

The charge stems from investigations commencing on January 26 into an alleged incident at a venue at St George Ave, Sussex Inlet, where the 37-year-old male police officer is believed to have stolen $265.

Investigators were told the cash was allegedly stolen from a wallet which was left unattended at the venue.

Following inquiries on Monday, police issued the accused man – who is a serving NSW police officer attached to the Central Metropolitan Region – a court attendance notice.

The police officer was charged with larceny to a value less than $2000.

He will front Nowra Local Court on May 27.

NSW Police said the officer’s employment status was under review.
