A Canberra man accused of exposing himself at a Batemans Bay shopping mall earlier this year will fight the charges after appearing at a South Coast local court for the first time.

Dean Roach pleaded not guilty at Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday to a raft of charges, including exposing himself in public and behaving in an offensive manner at the Citi Centre Arcade on July 27.

Police allege that the 45-year-old also carried out a sexual act in the company of a woman without consent on the same day, and had intentionally intimidated another woman in North Batemans Bay.

Roach, who resides in the ACT suburb of Holt, was apprehended by Queanbeyan Police on August 25.

Solicitor James McGuire told the court Roach has since been transported to Parklea Correctional Facility, where the ACT-based lawyer had been unable to contact the Canberra man.

“I’d hoped to talk to my client,” Mr McGuire told the court on Monday.

“I have tried to call Parklea five times this morning but haven’t gotten through.”

Magistrate Doug Dick allowed Mr McGuire to speak with Roach over AVL, after which pleas were entered.

He will reappear before Batemans Bay Local Court on September 26.
