Residents could get guardrail by next month, RMS

A guardrail could be installed at one of Rooty Hill’s most dangerous intersections as early as next month.

ROADS and Maritime Services has promised to improve the safety of an accident-prone intersection in Rooty Hill within six weeks.

A spokesman for the Roads and Maritime Services said:

“In light of recent events and community concern, safety investigations at the Willis St and Francis Rd intersection will be expedited and completed by the end of next month.

“We are looking at a range of possible improvements, including the installation of a guard rail and we will be consulting with the community as part of this process.”

The infamous corner of Willis St and Francis Rd has been plagued with more than a dozen serious crashes in the past decade.

Resident Ron Welch has had 12 cars crash through his fence and has repeatedly called on governments, MPs and the RMS to install an Armco fence outside his house.

“We need the Armco railing,” Mr Welch told The Standard.

“It’s only a matter of time before someone gets killed.

“I’ve had about 10 or 12 cars in my fence, next door has had five or six and the guy next to him has had four or five in his fence.

“I just can’t understand why ... they can’t put a fence up. What’s it going to take?”
