Christmas is the busiest time of year for many butchers, as Novocastrians stock up on hams, turkeys, and snags for the barbecue.

Finding a good butcher is essential for the perfect festive meal, which is why we asked you to nominate the wider Newcastle area’s best.

After putting the finalists to a vote in an online poll we found the winner for 2020.

The Newcastle News can now reveal the top butcher in the wider Newcastle area is Butchery on Brunker at Adamstown.

Owner Rob Owen said it was a great achievement to win the title for 2020.

“We’re very proud of our team,” Mr Owen said.

“We’re also very thankful of the community support and for the people who voted for us.”

Butchery on Brunker is best known for its range of small goods, including chorizo, cabanossi and bacon.

Mr Owen’s 30 years’ experience in the meat industry includes qualifications in small goods manufacturing.

But at this time of year his most popular products are those for Christmas lunch or dinner.

“Our in-store smoked ham is the favourite among customers,” he said.

“Our Australian rolled loins of pork are another hit at Christmas.”

If your Christmas meal isn’t organised, it’s not too late.

“People can still place orders with us up until Saturday,” Mr Owen said.

“We’ll be here across the Christmas and New Year period, open every day except public holidays.”
