He’s the son of Aussie schoolboy star, nephew and brother of rugby sevens talent and the grandson of a Wallaby captain.
And while Louis Fenwicke never met his grandfather Peter before his death in 1987, the Eastern Suburbs youngster wants to follow in his footsteps and right into a Wallabies jersey one day.
Wallaby Peter Fenwicke played NSW Country rugby before the No. 8 went on to become the 45th captain of the Autralian teams against the British Lions in 1959 after a debut for his country in 1957.
“He passed when dad was 16 but I’ve heard a lot of stories about him,’’ said Fenwicke who is at Sydney University studying a Bachelor of Management, majoring in sports business.
“We are a big rugby family and it’s really inspired us (he and his brother) to be Wallabies one day.”
Just 18, Fenwicke has the short term goal this season of making the NSW Waratahs for the Super Rugby U19s series and being part of a winning Colts 1st grand final team.
His brother Saxon, two years older, is connected with the Australian sevens progam, played 1st Colts for Easts for two years and is playing Shute Shield grade.
Fenwicke, who has also played grade this season, said not making the Australian U18 team alongside mates Zach Fittler, Jonty Fowler and others last year had been a good wake-up call.
“There was and under 18 development camp in Canberra and I didn’t make that team,’’ Fenwicke said.
“It did inspire me, got me working harder.
“Being in the NSW U20 pre season with the academy was also really good for me ahead of my first seasons of Colts.
“It's a lot different (from school rugby) with the amount of games.’’
Fenwicke returns to 1st Colts this weekend as Eastern Suburbs where Easts host Norths.
“I want to win a premiership with Easts and then make the Super Rugby U19s and just take any opportunity that comes my way,’’ he said.
