An Upper Hunter man has denied allegations of a sexual assault against a woman in Lake Macquarie last year.
John William Tutt from Muswellbrook appeared via video link while in custody, represented by Newcastle solicitor Mark Hanlon at Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.
The 48-year-old pleaded not guilty to three charges which included sexual intercourse without consent and two counts of sexually touching another person without consent.
Court documents revealed it related to one alleged victim on May 3 last year at Cardiff, with the alleged incident to have happened between 12am and 5:30am in the morning.
The court heard the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had made a detention application against Tutt, which was not opposed, but that he was already in custody for unrelated matters.
Tutt will proceed to trial in the District Court on those sexual assault charges and will be arraigned next month.
