Man dies after rock fishing accident in Kurnell
A man has tragically died in hospital after an accident on Christmas Day. He is among several men across the state who have drowned over the summer holidays.

A rock fisher who was pulled from the ocean in Sydney’s south on Christmas Day has tragically died in hospital.
Emergency services attended Voodoo Point near Sir Joseph Banks Drive, Kurnell, just 8.15am on December 25 after reports of a man in the water.
A 44-year-old man was retrieved by the NSW Ambulance helicopter before landing nearby, where paramedics commenced CPR.
He was flown to St George Hospital in a serious condition.
Officers from Sutherland Shire police area command were told the man was rock fishing at the time but it is unclear how he wound up in the water, though he was wearing a lifejacket.
At 8.25pm on January 2, the man tragically died in hospital.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Several people have now tragically drowned across the state in separate incidents since the holiday period began.
On December 30, rising rugby league star Daniel Cama, 16, tragically drowned while swimming with friends in Lake Parramatta in Sydney’s west.
Three volunteer lifesavers from Surf Life Saving Australia were on duty when the tragedy occurred and attempted to search for the boy as emergency services made their way to the scene.
Daniel had recently been selected to play for the Sydney Roosters in the NSW Rugby League’s Harold Matthews Ball under-16s competition.
The prestigious junior representative competition allows the best young league stars to compete at a high level while lining up for recognised clubs, many of which have NRL and Intrust Super Premiership sides.
He was to begin playing in the Harold Matthews summer competition in February.
On December 31, the body of a man who disappeared while swimming in the state’s south was recovered.
A body believed to be a 23-year-old man who disappeared beneath the waters of the Murray River at Tocumwal was recovered at Pebbly Beach following an intensive search.
A 25-year-old man also drowned at Budgewoi Lake in Toukley on the state’s Central Coast after he and his friends got into trouble while kayaking late on New Year’s Eve.
Friends and family paid tribute to Simeon McNeill, who was trying to save his young cousin from deteriorating weather conditions when his kayak flipped and he was overcome.
On January 2, police located a body after a 27-year-old man was reported missing while swimming in a lake near Orange.
Emergency services attended Lake Canobolas after the man reportedly disappeared and an extensive search located a body in the water at 6.15pm yesterday.

Before Christmas, a nine-year-old boy died in hospital after he was tragically found unconscious in a Griffith public swimming pool.
On December 20 the boy, who reportedly suffered a medical condition, was found slumped in the water near the side of the pool.
Despite the efforts of paramedics and police the boy died in hospital on December 22.
An 18-year-old man also drowned in the state’s Hawkesbury region while swimming in the Colo River.
Emergency services were called on December 21 when the teenager failed to resurface after entering the water at Lower Portland.
The man’s body was located in the river near where he was last seen.
