A former “high performing” lawyer has been jailed for threatening to kill a police officer, community corrections worker and her former rental manager in a tirade of abuse.

Madona Kobayssi, 38, appeared in Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday where she was sentenced for three separate incidents involving intimidation, assaults and resisting arrest.

In May, Kobayssi pleaded guilty to breaching an apprehended violence order against a manager of her former residential unit complex in North Bondi – where she threatened “I’ll cut you in half”.

Agreed facts state Kobayssi sent an email to the manager in May where she requested money for her “absolutely abhorrent stay” at the unit.

“I’m not joking – if you don’t return my money by end of week, I’ll have you stashed in the back of a police car like the junk yard that you are and slashed into a million pieces.”

Kobayssi failed to attend court in July and a warrant was issued for her arrest. She resisted arrest when police attended her Bexley home on July 21.

Agreed facts said Kobayssi was hostile, started yelling and threw her headphones towards an officer, striking him in the head.

Officers used force to control Kobayssi, who lashed out at them by kicking, thrashing her arms and legs and screaming before she was handcuffed.

She kicked a male officer in the leg and when she was put into a caged truck she struck a female officer in the stomach.

When at the station, Kobayssi yelled, swore and spat towards police before she said, “I will f---ing murder you”.

Kobayssi was charged and pleaded guilty to two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty, resist police officer and intimidating police officer.

The court heard Kobayssi also threatened to kill a correctives services staff member in July when the employee went to her home with Kobayssi later emailing the woman to “f--- off and don’t come around my place again”.

Kobayssi’s missed a scheduled appointment and sent a barrage of text messages to the woman on July 13 and 14.

“Come around here one more time and I’ll slit your throat and leave you to bleed in the middle of the street in broad daylight. Take your paper, police, corrections and court and shove them all up your ass,” she said.

The officer reported the messages to Sutherland police before Kobayssi had sent further 76 messages of an intimidating and violent nature over three hours, including, “why don’t you come around again so I can slash your ugly fat self into the nothing you are”.

Kobayssi pleaded guilty to intimidation and using a carriage service to threaten to kill.

In court, Kobayssi’s lawyer said she was once a “high performing” lawyer with a supportive family who in 2020 suddenly stopped working and started committing offences.

The lawyer said Kobayssi suffered from fibromyalgia which made her very fatigued and she had undiagnosed mental health conditions, but was unable to provide evidence to the court.

He also submitted Kobayssi had no intention to act on her threats, had a limited criminal record, was her first time in custody and was willing to get help.

Magistrate Hugh Donnelly said Kobayssi had made “significant threats” and she was a “persistent offender” who had “defied” court orders.

Kobayssi was sentenced to four months in jail, backdated to July 20, for using a carriage service to threaten to kill and then will have to serve an 18-month jail term, with non parole period of eight months from November 19.

She will be eligible for release to parole on July 18 2024 and then will be subject to a two-year community corrections order.
