WHETHER he’s managing the Allan Border Oval scorebox, spray-painting players’ names on boards or wicketkeeping for his team, Luke Easton embodies the community spirit Mosman Cricket Club is known for.
The 13-year-old cricketer and dedicated club volunteer is this week’s Junior Sports Star nominee in the Young Sporting Spirit category.
Luke won the club’s Hammy Love memorial trophy for making the biggest contribution on and off the field.
Allan Border won the same award in 1970-1971.
The young sportsman also holds the North Shore Junior Cricket Association’s under-15 wicketkeeping award for the most dismissals of the season.
Luke started operating the traditional manual scorebox at Allan Border Oval after his family moved nearby.
“You basically have got to take out these wooden boards that have numbers on them, then you have to place them into the correct slot,” he explained.
Luke said managing the scorebox for almost 30 senior games had broadened his involvement with the club and given him a few cricket tips along the way.
