She might not have been able to defend her Nutri-Grain ironwoman crown but Georgia Miller still claimed a little bit of history in the finale at Cronulla on Sunday.

Ironwoman Georgia Miller started the day with the goal of just making it through the first race and ended it exhausted but ecstatic - and with small piece of history - after claiming second place overall in the 2019/20 Nutri-Grain series.

Miller, who learned her craft on Sydney’s northern beaches, won the first two elimination races of the North Cronulla finale with her second behind Harriet Brown in the last of the day securing her a place on the series podium.

“That was so hard. It might have looked easy but on the inside I was suffering,’’ said Miller, who trains alongside round five winner Brown on the Gold Coast.

Lana Rogers had the title secured after round four of the professional ironwoman event with second and third place still up for grabs on Sunday.

Miller, who went through last season undefeated, was the only women this series with the ability to beat Rogers twice - for the round four crown on the Gold Coast in early January and in Sunday’s finale where her rival finished third.

Newport’s Lizzie Welborn overcame a “massive’’ bout of nerves to claim third place in her best ever result on the Nutri-Grain ironwoman series.

“It was so hard out there. That is the toughest format,’’ Welborn said.

“I was so nervous about this, I wanted it so badly, so I’m very happy to make it onto the podium.’’

Overall Rogers won the series from Miller and Welborn with Brown fourth, Danielle McKenzie fifth and former multiple ironwoman series champion Courtney Hancock sixth.

Central Coast athlete Jemma Smith was seventh with Tiarrn Raymond eighth, Maddy Dunn ninth and fomer champion Brielle Cooper 10th.

Massive swell on Sunday forced organisers to revise the course, reducing the length for both the ironwoman and ironwoman races.
