At the start of 2019 hardworking young cricketer Emily Horstead set herself two goals.
She wanted to make the NSW team and then she wanted to score her first 50.
“I completed both,” said the 12-year-old from Forestville.
“I did the 50 at the state carnival to get into the NSW team.”

The young cricketer recently returned from Adelaide when she was part of the NSW Primary School team competing at the Australian titles.
The 12 and under NSW side finished first, navigating their way through the tournament undefeated.
Emily has been playing the game since she was three and knows exactly where she hopes it will take her.
“I want to play for Australia one day,” she said. “I’d also like to play in the WBBL.
“I play soccer and netball as well. I like them a lot but I am better at cricket which is like it better.”
The young gun said Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy are her inspirations and has met both players.
“I was part of the Sydney Sixers sisters program and got to meet them,” said Emily, who will be playing under 15 grade cricket with Manly over summer.
“They were both really nice.’’
She also knows it will take hard work to one day emulate the top Australian players.
“We play backyard cricket and have a bowling machine and a batting net in the backyard,’’ she said.
“I train every day, net sessions and skills based sessions.
“I have always been taught to be determined and try my hardest and I have a lot of people around me to help me be the best and practice and learn.
“I just love it so much.’’
