Young Western Sydney Wanderers striker turned goalkeeper Daniel Axford is not living his dream by playing quality football on a regular basis but has been a standout with his “unbelievable work ethic.”
The Kellyville local, who has already played for nine clubs and represented Castle Hill United, gets top marks from his goalkeeping coach Davide del Giovine.
“This is the first time Daniel has been at a professional level and considering that he’s doing really well because he’s a professional kid and his work ethic is unbelievable,” del Giovine said.
If he continues to work hard, del Giovine said, Axford could go places.
The Marian College student plays for the Wanderers in the National Premier League, making his debut earlier this season.
Axford, who is highly regarded by the Wanderers, said he wants to go all the way and play for the Wanderers in the A-League.
“I used to play as striker when I was younger but I switched to goalkeeping when I was 10,” Daniel said.
“My main goal now is to play for the Wanderers’ first team as I have always had a dream to play for them.”
“It’s been a big learning curve after my debut and I have learnt a lot under the goalkeeping coach Davide del Giovine who is very good.”
Del Giovine added: “The effort he puts into training every day is fantastic.
“So far he’s doing alright and if he keeps working hard the way he does, he will get rewarded.”
