Blacktown Rugby Union Football Club (BRUFC) president, Scott Riley has become only the 12th person in the club’s history to play 250 games.
The second rower began his rugby career with the Warriors Colts back in 2004 and has steadily moved into first grade where he is now a permanent fixture in their NSW Suburban Rugby Union games.
Riley was given a guard of honour by his club when he led the first grade team out against local rivals Rouse Hill Renegades at Alwyn Lindfield Reserve, Glenwood, on Saturday.
Making it even sweeter for Riley was the convincing 45-17 win over Renegades to cement the position at the top of first grade.
“It’s a great honour to be able to play 250 games,” the 30-year-old Doonside local said.
“This has been a goal of mine for many years, and I’m proud to be joining this group of great
Warriors’ players.
“I used to play league as kid but moved into rugby when my brother told me to play rugby at this club, saying I could also get a job, which I did.
“I have a huge respect for many of those who have achieved this milestone before me,
especially John Brown, who was the president the year I joined Blacktown back in 2004.”
The Warriors
Of the current crop of players, only Jarad Weston has played more games than Riley. Weston played his 306th game at the weekend.
The second grade beat Renegades 29-14 while their thirds scored a 22-5 win to maintain an unbeaten run for all Warriors teams this season
The last time the Warriors won the title was in 2008 while they lost the 2014 grand final. They are looking the goods this season with several Fijians in their ranks adding to their overall strength.
