An “aggressive” Maroubra tradie who was warned about his antics during a night out unleashed violence on a pub employee before going on a kicking rampage, later being found shirtless on the middle of the road by police.
Matteo Marco Anthony Sergio Grassi, 25, appeared at Downing Centre Local Court on Monday having previously pleaded guilty to assault and failing to leave premises.
Agreed facts reveal about 11.30pm on September 24 an RSA marshall was told about Grassi “being aggressive to other patrons” at The Robin Hood Hotel at Bondi.
He was approached by Grassi who asked “what have I done wrong?”. The marshall told him about his conduct and threatened to kick him out.
A short time later, Grassi’s friends spoke to the marshall about his behaviour.
According to agreed facts, the marshall then said to Grassi “your friends want you to go home”, causing the 25-year-old to shove him before kicking a table which hit other people.
Grassi ran a short distance before being tackled to the ground by the marshall. The pair wrestle as the 25-year-old strikes him “twice with his right elbow”.
After being kicked out, Grassi attempted to apologise to the marshall but became “instantly aggressive” when spoken to by his friends.
Facts reveal Grassi “began kicking the air” as well as a sign outside the hotel and one of the venue’s walls.
Officers in an unmarked police car saw Grassi in the middle of Bronte Rd without a shirt on and tried to speak to him where he was aggressive and ran away.
Further police were called to help as officers followed Grassi who turned around towards the venue.
He then laid down on the footpath where he was arrested and was taken to Waverley police station.
Grassi will be sentenced on October 17, the same day he is due to defend a charge of reckless grievous bodily harm stemming from an incident at Matraville in the hours following a State of Origin match. He has previously pleaded not guilty.
Court documents tendered on his plea of guilty for the Bondi attack allege the victim, Trae Mason, required treatment in an intensive care unit following the incident.
