DARYL Braithwaite, one of Australia’s most popular singers, promises a night to remember for fans at The Australian Hotel and Brewery this Friday.
The former Australian King Of Pop and frontman for the ’70s group, Sherbet, may be 67 but he still has the energy and excitement for a live gig and is looking forward to playing at Rouse Hill venue.
“Well, I’m still alive and enjoying myself touring and playing to audiences,” Braithwaite told the Rouse Hill Times.
“If you asked me in 1976 if I will be still touring in 40 years time, I would have said ‘Wow, I don’t think so’.
“I love the aspects of live performances though I have always found recording a bit hard as I am a bit lazy when it comes to recording and writing new songs.”
“I am looking forward to playing at the Brewery as we haven’t played there before.”
Braithwaite, who performed to thousands during a special cruise to mark the centenary of the Anzacs last year, said he would be playing a few Sherbet songs at the Brewery along with several hits from his solo career.
“Yes, The Horses has been a big part of my life and it’s incredible how people react to my performances of this song. It’s good for them and good for me.
“I have been performing this song at the Cox Plate for about five years though I wouldn’t call it a tradition now as maybe, they were not able to find someone else to play!”
Braithwaite, who will be joined by band members Geoff Wells, John Corniola, Mark Amato and David Campbell, has been together for several years, said he hardly thought of his King of Pop days unless someone reminded him.
“Sherbet was a long time ago and I did enjoy myself immensely and it was a very interesting time in my life,” said Braithwaite, a regular guest on Countdown.
Braithwaite’s show is among major acts being engaged by the Brewery, which has locked in country mucountry stars sic stars The McClymonts and top rock band The Angels in March 2017.
