ROUSE Hill Town Centre is embarking on a massive $300 million expansion to exploit the anticipated boom from the fast developing Sydney Metro north nest rail link which will have a Skytrain stop on its doorstep.
The centre’s owners GPT confirmed plans for the expansion which will bring in more than 90 new speciality shops — including Australian and international retailers — and also add hundreds of new residential units to the sprawling outdoor designed complex.
Rouse Hill Town Centre regional general manager Dave Moreton said they had purchased 12.5 ha of land on the northern side for the expansion with work due to start in mid-2017.
“This is a very exciting time for the Town Centre and the broader trade area,” Mr Moreton said.
“There is a great opportunity for Rouse Hill Town Centre to continue to grow along the much- anticipated Sydney Metrotrain linkand significant residential development that’s occurring around us.
“We have had significant interest from the major retailers based in Australia and overseas.”
Asked if the new and planned shopping centres in the area will challenge RHTC as the premier shopping centre in the area, Mr Moreton said they are well positioned to maintain their market share.
The Ponds has already opened a shopping centre while more are planned or being built in Box Hill, Riverstone, Schofields and Marsden Park
“RHTC is enjoying a significant amount of sales and traffic growth and the increase in population within the trade area has also allowed for the introduction of new retail centres,” he said.
“Our unique town centre positioning has put as in an excellent place to continue our success, despite additional supermarket competition.
“A key consideration for any future development will be to retain our position as one of the most convenient shopping locations in the area.
“The provision for car parking and the increase in spaces is a key element to retain this positioning.”
