Two Penrith locals have been selected to represent Australia at the 2019 International Dragon Boat Federation World Nations Championships.
Glenn Ling from Penrith and Peter Fox from Blaxland will travel to Pattaya-Rayong, Thailand later this month as part of the Australian Senior B (over 50) Category.
Ling and Fox are both members of Pendragons Dragon Boat Club, which trains regularly on the Nepean River and at the Sydney International Regatta Centre.
Club secretary Jane Howard said having two Pendragons selected to represent Australia was a phenomenal achievement.
“I think they’ll do really, really well,” Ms Howard said.
“We’ve had a strong history in the club of people really aspiring to get to that level and there aren’t many sports at the masters level where you can do that.”
A former Australian team captain, the 2019 World Nations Championships will be Fox’s fourth appearance in the green and gold since first taking up the sport in 2010.
Meanwhile Ling, who started with Pendragons in 2016, will be pulling on the green and gold for the first time in Thailand.
A former Australian representative in her own right, Ms Howard knows exactly how much the national colours mean to both men.
“It’s impossible to explain how much it means to wear those green and gold colours,” she said.
“There’s really nothing like it.”
Pendragons will be hosting a come and try day on Sunday, September 22.
