Leonay’s Noemie Fox has put together a strong display at the 2019 Canoe Slalom Under-23 World Championships, coming away with a team bronze and a season-best individual result in Krakow, Poland.
The 22-year-old had a stellar start to the elite competition, combining with Kate Eckhardt and Demelza Wall to finish third in the women’s C1 team event.
Against some quality European opposition, the Australian trio were in fine form as they wrapped up a podium finish with a time of 119.54- 11.02 behind first-placed Czech Republic and 3.54 behind silver medallists France. Fox said she was especially proud of the team’s result considering it was their podium finish together.
“It’s our first team medal together and we have another year of Under-23 to come as well,” she said.
“We had a pretty strong plan, but obviously with teams you have to be able to adapt and be flexible. But we were confident and supporting (of) each other.”
Following her team bronze, Fox continued her momentum in the individual women’s K1.
She delivered a clean run to post a time of 99.40 and record a season’s best fifth-place finish.
Despite missing a podium finish by less than two seconds, Fox said she was proud of her effort.
“I was really happy to be there in the first place,” she said.
“My run was a bit sticky but I was happy to put down a clean run. I feel pretty confident on Krakow, I know the course pretty well, it’s quite predictable and stable. But it’s a really tough race, and I’m trying to be as confident as I can and just focus on delivering my plan.”
