Police have released images in an appeal for public assistance as they continue to investigate the suspicious death of a Fiji national in Sydney’s west in March.

Maciu Tale Tuitubou died at Westmead Hospital on Monday, March 18, a day after Cumberland police were called to a home on Louis St, Granville, about 12.55pm after reports of a fight.

Officers found 36-year-old Mr Tuitubou with severe head injuries.

Paramedics treated him before he was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition and died the following day.

A crime scene was established and police started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene at the time and was taken to Granville police station but no charges have been laid.

Cumberland detectives established Strike Force Loureiro in March to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and M Tuitubou’s subsequent death.

Cumberland Acting Superintendent Darren Beeche said detectives conducted extensive inquiries, but were now appealing for more information from members of the public.

Police would like to speak to any witnesses, including anyone who saw Mr Tuitubou before the alleged assault.

Detectives particularly would like to speak to a woman who was seen holding an open umbrella at the scene but left before the arrival of emergency services.

“We are reaching out for assistance from the community as we continue to investigate this for Maciu’s family, who have been left devastated,” Acting-Supt Beeche said.

“We especially need this woman to come forward as we believe she might have information that could assist police with their inquiries.

“My detectives are working hard to find the answers for Maciu’s family.’’

Anyone with information which may assist investigators are urged to call Cumberland police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
