Motorists in Hunters Hill will now be able to pay for parking using an app on their phone.
The NSW Government’s Park’nPay app has recently gone live in Hunters Hill joining other Sydney areas including The Rocks, Darling Harbour and Pyrmont.
The free app has had more than 14,500 downloads to date since it’s launch last October.
“The technology eliminates the need for drivers to walk to a parking meter by allowing them to pay and top up via the app,” Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello said.
“It also helps drivers avoid parking fines, by sending a notification when their meter is running low or their park is about to turn into a no stopping zone.”
Mayor of Hunters Hill Council Mark Bennett said the app was another way in which the Council was striving to be innovative and sustainable.
“We’re pleased to provide Hunters Hill citizens a fast and convenient service that also helps them avoid fines”, Mr Bennett said.
“Park’nPay provides a ticketless and environment-friendly way to pay for your parking.”
It is understood that the parking app does not currently recognise permit entitlements such as mobility parking scheme permits yet the department are looking to include that service in the future.
At present, parking inspectors will be notified when stickers of parking entitlements are displayed on the car window.
To download the app, drivers can head to the App Store or Google Play before creating an account using their licence plate and payment details.
The NSW Government is now working to get other councils onboard.
Parking meters will continue to accept coins and credit cards for those who don’t use the app.
