THINK bodyboarding isn’t an extreme sport? Think again.

Meet Max Dodshon, a big wave bodyboarder from Fairlight, who features in a new bodyboarding film that will make you think twice about the sport being just a leisurely activity to enjoy in the shallows of your local beach.

Dodshon, 25, is used to catching waves 15-20 feet high over reef breaks.

One of many top bodyboarders to feature in Til The End, Dodshon suffered a horrific injury during filming in Western Victoria.

Last July, at a popular bodyboarding spot called Luna Park, a wave pulled him under the water and he landed on the reef, shattering his right knee.

Still recovering, he will require a second surgery on the knee next month and is just getting back into the water.

But he’s keen as ever to get back to what he loves doing most. “I’m looking to get straight back into chasing big waves,” he said.

“Because there aren’t many waves suited to bodyboarding on the northern beaches I think the general consensus is that bodyboarding is a sport for little kids on the shore break or people that can’t surf,” he said.

“But I think once people see bodyboarding (through the film) in its true light they’ll see these are big powerful waves,” he said.

Tickets $15. Til The End screens at Harbord Bowling Club at 6.30pm, Saturday. Details: imagefilmz.com.
