VANDALs have slashed the tyres of more than 20 trailers parked along Kenneth Rd, Manly Vale in a crime spree costing thousands of dollars.
Two trailer owners discovered on Sunday that their tyres had been sliced open.
But they’d not checked their vehicles for at least a month so the date of the vandalism is unclear.
When the Manly Daily inspected the trailers parked on the southern side of Kenneth Rd between Addiscombe Rd and Quirk Rd, it counted 23 trailers that had their tyres lacerated on both sides of the vehicle.
This included 15 boat trailers, seven box trailers and one caravan.
Michal Chan and Martin Skrlik, who co-own a boat that was vandalised, are furious at what has happened.
“It must have been risky for somebody to do that,” Mr Skrlik said.
“We do have insurance — but it’s a hassle on a busy road to have to replace the tyres.”
Mr Chan, of Manly Vale, said the two tyres would cost just under $200 to replace. It’s the second time the pair’s boat had been targeted while parked along Kenneth Rd.
“I’m super angry,” Mr Chan said.
“Six weeks ago somebody got into the boat and stole the (boat’s) battery.”
Queenscliff’s James Bowles is another person who realised on Sunday that his trailer’s tyres had been cut to ribbons.
Mr Bowles’ trailer is used for advertising his gardening business.
“I’m only 22, so I don’t have a whole heap of money … it’s a bit annoying,” Mr Bowles said.
Mr Skrlik, who said he thought vandals were unhappy with the trailers being there, said he hoped the new Northern Beaches Council would consider looking at more designated spots for long-term trailer parking.
It’s possible that many of the owners aren’t yet aware that their trailers have been vandalised.
Northern Beaches duty officer Inspector Luke Arthurs said owners of trailers parked on the street should check them as frequently as possible and immediately report any damage to the police.
