PARTY-LOVING radio star Maz Compton reckons she’ll never drink again.
The 2 Day FM host gave up booze after the death of her beloved manager – celebrity agent Mark Byrne from a heart attack in 2014 – and is now celebrating more than a year without touching a drop.
It’s a far cry from her previous life when she admitted she was rarely without a drink in her hand “and sometimes both,” she joked.
And it wasn’t just at showbiz parties, but at home, too.
The 36-year old admitted in a personal blog post in January that she sometimes couldn’t remember how she got back to her house in Newport and that, as well as drinking at events, she also drank at home alone.
As she prepares for a new venture, Maz, who found fame on MTV, has written a list of benefits she’s found.
Titled 365 Days. Zero Alcohol. 136 Things I Noticed and posted on her blog, they range from “The answer is not in the bottom of the bottle” and “I spend less time worrying what other people think about me”, to “There is a greater sense of purpose to my life”.
“After a few months I felt so awesome, my head was clear, I was fitter, my face was thinner – I just kept going,” she said.
And now Compton, is going one step further towards embracing her new healthy lifestyle – by opening her own gym.
Meanwhile, she’s also found love again after her divorce.
And boyfriend of 18 months, Glen Naveau, also 36, will run the new Avalon branch of high intensity group fitness gym F45, with her.
The couple lives in Newport and admit to both being gym mad – even going on fitness holidays.
Compton, who emigrated from the UK at age eight and found fame on MTV before landing a radio gig, met hunky Naveau after being single for five years, and said they complemented
each other.
“He’s great,” Compton said. “I think we are well suited.”
Of her alcohol abstinence, Compton said she won’t even sample a drop at the gym’s opening next month.
Instead, she is planning to serve healthy fermented drink kombucha.
“I don’t think I will drink again and if I do it will be a champagne for a celebration,” she said.
Maz’s weekdays have opened up since she and sidekick Dan Debuf were moved to weekends to make way for Rove McManus and Sam Frost.
However Compton, whose mum Zita lives in Narrabeen, has nothing bad to say — but admits she hasn’t listened.
“They’re awesome. I’ve known Rove for a long time. I think they make a great duo,” she said.
“Dan and I are loving doing weekends and it’s a national show so we’re all around the country again.”
F45 is at 37-39 Old Barrenjoey Rd, Avalon Beach, f45training.com.au/avalon/
