Married at First Sight star said she was more worried about how she’d look, than marrying a stranger

MARRIED at First Sight contestant Simone says she spent her wedding day worrying more about her skin than the fact she was tying the knot with a stranger.

Simone breaks down over lack of romance

She might have looked like a glamorous TV bride, but Northern Beaches Married at First Sight star Simone Lee Brennan has revealed she was terrified of what people would say about her skin.

The 29-year old make-up artist said she was more worried about her acne scarring, than the ordeal of getting hitched to a stranger on the Nine show.

But Ms Brennan now plans to use her new-found fame to help others suffering from the ‘hell” of acne, and the scarring it leaves behind.

“When I got the call to say I was going on the show, as excited as I was, I called my mum, and said: ‘Mum, what am I going to do about my face?’” she said.

“I found out the day before the wedding it was going to be outside, in the sun. I was self conscious about the angles. I was nervous.”

Ms Brennan, who spent five years in Collaroy where her mum still lives before recently moving to the eastern suburbs said she, was scared how she’d cope if criticised over her skin.

She developed adult acne at 20, and said she still suffers from related self-esteem issues.

She took three courses of last-resort drug Roaccutane, which has severe side effects, over five years.

“My hands dried out so badly, they bled on a daily basis,” she said.

The treatment finally cleared up the worst of her spots, but she’s left with scarring.

“Acne stole a large portion of my self-esteem: my ability to confidently look people in the eye and hold my head high, particularly on days when the sun is beaming down on my face and my skin is on show for the world to see,” she wrote this week on her new blog.

But after doing her own make-up for her wedding, she was relieved to get only good feedback.

Now she’s keen to share her tips with others battling the difficult condition - as well as advising brides on wedding day make-up- on her blog.

“Acne and adult acne is something that people don’t want to talk about. It’s something that takes over your life,” she said.

“I want to show people what works for me.”
