MARRIED at First Sight star Simone Lee Brennan has revealed she and ‘husband’ Xavier and had agreed to go their separate ways before her emotional on-screen speech.
The make-up artist, 29, has been criticised following last night’s dramatic final show, which saw her decide to split with Xavier after their trial month of married life.
In an emotional speech she said while the couple were so similar, she needed somebody “who is excited when I walk in that door” and “somebody who genuinely wants to hold me”
She added she didn’t think Xavier was ready.
And Ms Brennan today said she stands by her decision, which the pair had agreed off screen.
“My decision was not a shock to Xavier. He agreed to walk away as well. Xavier and I were definitely on the same page,” she said.
“Considering the situation, I’m very happy with my decision and I still stick by it today.
“My decision wasn’t just based on what you saw. It was based on lots of conversations we had.
“Xavier and I spoke about decision day. He knew things were missing in our relationship.
“He’s not romantic, that’s okay. That’s something that’s important. Just having somebody who genuinely wants to spend time with me, that’s what I‘m looking for.
“At the end of the it and even today, we both know it wasn’t right.
“I’m looking for true love. I’m not going to be with somebody just for the sake of it.”
Ms Brennan said the pair have spoken a few times since the show, which was filmed from last October to December.
She said the show had been “life-changing” though, and had made her stronger and more confident in what she’s looking for in a relationship.
She said she has also been on a few dates with other people, and have been on tinder, but was single.
This morning the couple had an exchange on social media.
Xavier called Simone a “great person” and thanked her for “the good times.”
He posted: “Thanks for the support from everyone throughout this incredible journey, even the haters. Today I start again and roll on. Hats off to Simone, she is a great person and thanks for the good times. I wish you all the best.”
Ms Brennan, who has just moved from the northern beaches to the eastern suburbs, replied: “As we said, wouldn’t want to have been matched with anyone else! Thanks for being on this journey with me. New beginnings, no regrets!”
Fellow contestant Clare Verrall, whose own relationship didn’t work out, has also backed her decision, despite many viewers online saying they didn’t agree with what she did.
She said: “For the awesome @simbaleebrennan who was brave enough to walk away from a relationship that wasn’t making her happy. Love you girl, that took guts & I have nothing but admiration for you!”
