Manly Wharf Hotel throws its second Super Bowl party
The razzle-dazzle of Super Bowl kept northern beaches fans happy
It’s a long way from Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco, but Super Bowl 50 fever hit Manly yesterday.
Hundreds of fans poured into Manly Wharf Hotel’s main bar and sports bar to watch the Denver Broncos beat Carolina Panthers, 24-10 in the NFL grand final.
To celebrate the all-American day, the hotel put on dude food menu with sliders, jalapeño poppers, chicken wings and plenty of American beer.
Duty manger Amelia Purdey said the pub had put on extra staff for the event.
“We have four extra staff working,” she said.
“We had people lining up to get in and I am surprised how many locals have come along.”
General manager Justin Tynan said that the halftime adverts were a huge drawcard.
It’s the second time the pub has organised a Super Bowl party, Mr Tynan said.
The Harbord Beach Hotel has been showing Super Bowl live for five years.
Jarryd Hayne’s time with the San Francisco 49ers has raised gridiron’s local profile, general manager Sean King said.
“People are much more interested in Super Bowl, Jarryd Hayne’s foray into the sport has helped.”
Pittwater RSL also opened early for it’s first Super Bowl, manager Earl Moran said.
“There’s been a bit interest, it’s the first time we have put on an event,” he said.
“If we have a crowd of more than 50, then we’ll be pretty happy.”
The razzle-dazzle of Super Bowl also brought out a stellar cast of A-list entertainers.
This year, Lady Gaga sang the national anthem; while Beyonce and Coldplay entertained the crowds and the millions watching around the world.
